The war against fentanyl continues in Montana as law enforcement continues to rid the state of the deadly drug.

Recently, a 20-year-old man from Great Falls was the latest drug offender to feel the wrath of the law.

Man Busted for Trafficking Fentanyl Out of a Great Falls Motel

It's a story as old as time itself: man sells drugs out of a motel room. It's almost stereotypical but that's beside the point - how sad is it that this young man's bad choices are putting him behind bars.

According to authorities, 20-year-old Brayden Lucas Sangrey was busted in a Great Falls motel room "on two outstanding warrants."

When they took him into custody, they reported finding $2,500 in cash, drug paraphernalia and a box containing 65 grams of fentanyl.

Last May, he pleaded guilty to "possession with intent to distribute fentanyl."

Monana Continues Crackdown on Fentanyl

As I said, it's unfortunate to see anyone make these choices and it's even sadder that this person is just 20 years old.

As a result of his crimes, Sangrey will spend the next five years and four months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release.

It's the latest in a state-wide crackdown on fentanyl that Montana officials say is one of the biggest threats to our community.

"Fentanyl is the biggest public safety threat facing Montana," the Montana Department of Justice says, "In recent years, illicit drugs and ensuing violent crime in Montana have skyrocketed, for the most part due to the country’s wide-open southern border."

"The illicit fentanyl is trafficked into the state from Mexico and it’s killing Montanans. Since 2019, fentanyl seizures in Montana have increased 20,000 percent."

Expect to see more cases like this arise as authorities work to crush the fentanyl market in Montana.
