The Montana Department of Livestock says the bird flu has shown up in a flock in Pondera County. The bird flu has now shown up in eight counties in Montana. State officials say all infected flocks are placed under quarantine.

The disease has a high mortality rate and state officials have confirmed that there have been a large number of bird mortalities.

Sick birds will exhibit swollen eyes, a discolored comb and legs and a big drop in egg production. The disease is passed to flocks after they mingle with wild and migratory birds.
