It's a sensible question and just one of the things to consider when keeping those decorative lights on 24/7. The site Powerley conducted tests all three different Christmas light types: mini lights, mini LED lights, and Ceramic C7 lights.

As you might expect, the LED lights consume the least amount of energy with an average monthly cost of $8.86 a month for a 12-foot tree with 2,000 lights on it.

For the Ceramic C7 lights, a 25-foot long string consists of 25 lights and you'd need about 100 lights to cover a 7-foot tall tree; this would cost you about $50.92 a month.

And for a 12-foot tall tree made up of 2,000 mini lights will cost you about $76.57 a month according to Powerley.
