They say that dogs are a man’s best friend.  Anyone that has owned (or been owned by) a dog knows how great it is to be in the company of a canine friend.  I recently found myself in need of a new companion and this is the story of my adventure.

My daughter and her boyfriend have been living at my house since January of 2021.  They owned two dogs that became best friends with my dog Juliette. My daughter recently bought a home and moved out over the weekend taking her two dogs with her.  My poor Juliette was beside herself with despair as her best friends were gone.

Juliette was a rescue dog that I adopted from the City of Great Falls Animal Shelter October of 2020.  Until I adopted her, she was only socialized with other dogs and animals and rarely with humans.  This is a big factor in needing to get her a new friend as soon as possible.

I looked up the available animals at the City of Great Falls Animal Shelter but didn’t find what I was looking for.  I then took a look at Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center. I found a great older dog that I believed would fit into my home very well.  I filled in the online application and received an email back accepting my initial form.  My frustration came with the letter.  In the letter I was told that I need to come meet the dog, then bring all of the household humans to meet the dog (not required).  If this meeting goes well, I need to come back with Juliette for another meet and greet.  The hours of availability to do this is 12-4:30 Tue-Sat. They usually only take credit card or debit card (I prefer to pay cash) and that I need to fill out an ASCPA survey so they can “match me with the best possible animal for my lifestyle.”  I understand the need to confirm a safe home for adopted animals, but I felt like I was being interrogated and being judged because I wanted to adopt a dog to love.  The process is more than I have time or patience for. I am starting to understand why there are so many animals in the shelters if this is the process to adopt!

With that being said, please continue to adopt animals. I have listed several local adoption agencies below.
