On your 2024 Primary Election Ballot, you'll notice a section asking if you support a local Government Review Committee.

Article XI, Section 9(2) of the 1972 Montana Constitution established this review committee rule and requires a local government review every 10 years.

2024 is a Local Government Review year for Great Falls and Cascade County.

Reason For A Government Review

The reason behind a government review is to examine the powers of local government.

For instance, Great Falls currently operates under a Commission-Manager form of government.

The study commission would examine this structure more closely and suggest changes or keep it as is.

Government Review Process

Voters will be asked if they support establishing a five-member study commission and funding it to conduct the study.

☐ FOR the review of the government of the City of Great Falls and the establishment and funding, not to exceed (insert dollar or mill amount), of a local government study commission consisting of (insert number of members) members to examine the government of the City of Great Falls and submit recommendations on the government.

☐ AGAINST the review of the government of the City of Great Falls and the establishment and funding, not to exceed (insert dollar or mill amount), of a local government study commission consisting of (insert number of members) members to examine the government of the City of Great Falls and submit recommendations on the government.

If voters are in favor of a governmental review study, another election will be held to choose candidates for the commission.
