Video Shows Extent of Wind Damage to Great Falls

High winds in Montana are nothing new but that doesn't make the potential damage any less severe.

Recently, high winds caused some serious destruction at the Holiday Village Mall here in Great Falls... and we caught up with someone who was there when it happened.

Wind Damage at Holiday Village Mall in Great Falls

The people of Great Falls visiting the mall had a scary (and dangerous) experience on Wednesday (3/25). According to a video posted to the Facebook group "What's Happening Great Falls Montana" from Nathaniel Chitwood, we can see a skylight in the Holiday Village Mall suffered some serious damage from the high winds.

"The wind just blew off part of the roof at the mall," Nathaniel said in his original post, "The piece of roof then smashed through the window sending shrapnel everywhere and nearly hitting my toddler in the head."

When I caught up with Nathaniel, he elaborated more on the incident.

"My son and I were walking through the mall when we heard a loud bang," Nathaniel shared with us.

"Suddenly, large chunks of sharp plexiglass started raining down from the sky all around us."

Thankfully, Nathaniel and his son are okay.

Roof Damage Video of Great Falls Mall

In the video shared by Nathaniel, we can see the aftermath of the damage seemingly right after it happened.

You can see glass and debris scattered across the floor. The skylight also looks visibly cracked with a piece of the roof sitting right through it.

KRTV reports no businesses were affected and that the area was taped off.
