When law enforcement releases a notice for schools to shelter-in-place, it's hard to ignore.

Great Falls police released a shelter-in-place notice earlier today, sparking a wave of concern and curiosity throughout the community.

Great Falls Police Announce Shelter-in-Place

On Tuesday morning around 10:35 AM, Great Falls police notified the community that two schools were ordered to shelter in place.

"At approximately 10:35AM today (5/19/26), as a precaution, SROs Fleming and Kinsey placed CMR High and Valley View Elementary schools in shelter-in-place status," Great Falls police said in their post on Facebook. "Officers are investigating suspicious activity in the neighborhood near the schools."

"We will update this post when the situation has been resolved and the schools have resumed normal activity."

So, what went down that left law enforcement with no choice but to issue the shelter-in-place notices for the schools?

Great Falls Police Nab Their Suspect

As it turned out, Great Falls police were looking to pick up a suspect. There was only roughly 20 minutes between the time GFPD implemented and lifted the shelter-in-place status.

"Officers have taken a person into custody after a short foot pursuit and search," Great Falls police said. "The shelter-in-place for the school listed below has been lifted."

"Huge thanks to everyone for your patience as officers worked to resolved the situation quickly and safely."

Man, I'll say! How's that for efficiency and record time? Most folks in the area probably didn't have time to even wonder what was going on.

I will say, it feels nice celebrating these little victories in a world where law enforcement is under such a huge microscope. Special thanks to Great Falls police for keeping us safe.
