Did You Know Sanitation Services Are Required In Great Falls?
Having weekly sanitation services is yet another benefit of living within city limits.
Just about when your garbage can is filling up, folks from the city or private company show up and haul it out for you.
Yes, it costs a little bit each month but talk about convenience!
But you might not realize that sanitation services are a legal requirement in the City of Great Falls.
According to the city code, even if you wanted to, you can't cancel your trash services and haul your own garbage.

Great Falls Sanitation Code
The City of Great Falls City sanitation rules are clarified under city code 8.8.250.
The code is broken down into four different sections.
- Section A
- This section states that sanitation service within city limits is mandatory and that no exceptions will be made.
- Section B
- This section details how city residents receiving private trash service will be exempt from paying the city sanitation service fee. A fee would only apply if a city container were being utilized.
- Section C
- In true government fashion, this section doesn't make much sense. What I make of it is that you'll be charged a fee even if you turn down trash disposal services. It states that if the property has city services and will likely accumulate trash, a fee will be imposed no matter what.
- Section D
- Trash services, however, can be suspended during winter if the primary residence owner is traveling. The suspension can last for a minimum of two months and a maximum of six months from November to April. Stop and start dates must be provided to the City Finance Department.
So, there you have it; everything you need to know about Great Falls city sanitation services.
