Big Sky, Big Screen: Montana's Film Scene Grows

Montana might not be the epicenter of movie-making magic, but there are some people under the Big Sky hoping to change that.

One Montana State University assistant professor was recently able to show off his film creation at the famous South By Southwest festival in Texas.

Horror Hits Home in This Creepy Montana Film

Ben Leonberg, an assistant professor for MSU's School of Film and Photography who has an office full of Stephen King books, is no stranger to making films, as he's directed several in his life.

This one, however, with its unique main character, is getting high praise, and theater managers said they had to bring in more chairs to its final showing.

His character is so unique that Ben had people rolling down their windows while driving past him to ask, "Is that the Good Boy?"

From Bozeman to the Big Screen: A Dog’s Rise to Fame

"Good Boy" is based around the fact that you'll sometimes see your pets just staring at seemingly nothing, thus giving their owners the creeps.

Indy, Ben's dog and star of the show, has no formal training but yet had no problem acting natural for the film.

“Dogs have no ego, and they have no hang-ups,” Leonberg said. “They are a method actor the way Daniel Day-Lewis could only dream of being. They can only be themselves.”

Right now the film is only being shown at film festivals; however, I personally called Ben, and when I told him I was excited to see the project, he said that he can't announce anything just yet, but soon they'll have some news on when those of us in the Treasure State will be able to watch it.
