Historic Butte Restaurant Closure Shocks Community

Peking Noodle In Butte Closing After 115 Years
What’s known as the oldest continuously operating family-owned Chinese restaurant in America, Peking Noodle, is shutting down after 115 years.
That’s generations of families walking through those doors, sitting down together, sharing meals. Grandparents telling their grandkids about the first time they were brought in there.
It was more than just a place to eat in Montana. It was part of the community, part of what made Butte feel like Butte.
More Than A Restaurant, A Part of Butte’s Identity
And the tough part is, it’s not closing because people stopped going. It’s closing because the restaurant world has changed so much over the years.
Costs keep going up, fewer people are dining in, and more folks are doing takeout or delivery. That’s made it harder and harder for small, family-owned spots to keep going.
So this one feels like more than just another closure. It really does feel like a piece of Butte’s history is fading away.
