Surprise! More Republicans Than Democrats Are Moving To Montana
Montana's Newest Residents Are More Red Than Blue
It's been a long-held theory that people moving from places such as California have been Democrats and would try to turn Montana blue.

How Many Republicans Are Moving To Montana
According to L2, a data service website, from October 2008 until May 2024, for every two Democrats who moved to Montana, almost three Republicans moved here during that same time frame.
I've often joked that a Montana Democrat is just a California Republican, because most Democrats in Montana are actually pretty moderate.
In fact, the whole state was pretty moderate for decades, as until just recently we had pretty much equal representation when it came to statewide races.

Will Montana Ever Be Purple Again?
If Montana is ever going to be purple again, it won't be during this election season, as currently there are no Democrats leading in statewide races according to a new poll by AARP.
While Montana on an election map may look solidly red, I still believe we are a purple state deep down since, from that same poll, AARP found almost 40% of respondents consider themselves independents.
It's those independents that will determine if Montana continues to stay red or shifts back to being a bit more purple in the coming years.
