Will Great Falls Lose This Discount Retailer in the Mall?

It seems as though we have been fortunate over the last few months in regard to new business coming to Great Falls.

A new trucking company coming to Airport Hill, the possibility of a Winco or maybe a Piggly Wiggly opening have also been in the rumor mill.

It's been nice to talk and write about new things coming instead of a long-standing local or chain leaving us.  Unfortunately, we may be facing the latter, again, in Great Falls.

With Bankruptcy Looming, It May Be Just a Matter of Time in Great Falls

In a story first reported by the New York Post, the discount home goods store Big Lots is suffering.  So much so that they may need to file bankruptcy.

The report states that: “Elevated inflation has put a damper on customers’ buying power, resulting in big losses for the company and “substantial doubt” about its ability to continue operations."

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said they are considering closing 35-40 stores before the end of the 2024 year.

Another Blow to Holiday Village Mall in Great Falls

I'll admit, I am not a frequent shopper at Big Lots in the mall.  But it does bother me that another national chain might be leaving us and leaving our mall.  For someone that grew up enjoying it back in the day, the current status is saddening.
