How Busy Was Great Falls Fire Rescue During the Holiday Weekend?

As America celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Nation this past weekend, things in Great Falls, Montana were a little different in alleys and sidewalks.  A new fireworks ordinance passed in November of 2025 severely limited what could be set off within the city limits.

For me, it sounded a little less like warzone and a little more like celebration in the Electric City this year.  But that doesn't mean that the Great Falls Fire Rescue responders didn't have a busy weekend taking care of revelers in 2026.

How Busy Was Great Falls Fire Rescue During the Holiday Weekend?

In the 48-hour window of July 3 and 4, 2026, in Great Falls, the GFFR responded to 74 total calls for the period according to their press release.  For Friday July 3rd calls to the office included:

• 1 Hazardous Situation
• 20 Emergency Medical Calls
• 3 Public Service Calls
• 6 False Alarms

On Independence Day in Great Falls, the department responded to the following calls:

• 6 Fire Calls
• 4 Dumpster Fires
• 2 Structure Fires
• 23 Emergency Medical Calls
• 7 Public Service Calls
• 1 River Rescue
• 6 False Alarms
• 1 Law Enforcement Assist

Fire Calls Direct Result of Improper Fireworks Disposal by Users in Great Falls

Great Falls Fire Rescue stated that "All six fire incidents during this period were determined to be the direct result of fireworks.  The two structure fires occurred after fireworks were improperly disposed of in dumpsters located adjacent to detached garages."

The department said that more information about the holiday weekend would be released once data had been compiled.  At the time of the release, GFFR said that "information regarding any citations or enforcement actions related to these incidents was not available."
