New Updates Announced for Holter and Log Gulch Recreationists
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Montana has been hard at work this spring near a popular recreational area between Great Falls and Helena, Montana. The work is part of upgrades to several campground areas near Holter Lake and Log Gulch.
As the project continues, upgrades have required the closure of certain areas as progress is made and finished. Some of those areas are just now being finished, and will be open to the public for use, but others will be closed, which may affect your weekend reservations.

New Updates Announced for Holter and Lost Gulch Recreationists
The newly announced construction dates for the Holter Lake camping area to be open for reservations is August 20th through September 12, 2026. The campground at Holter will now be closed for use from October 12th through November 8, 2026.

For Log Gulch recreationists, new reservation dates for the area are August 4-14, 2026. The campground will now be closed from September 14th through October 11, 2026, as repairs and upgrades are done.
Refunds For Recreationists Who Booked and Are Now in New Construction Window
If you made a reservation for either the Holter Lake or Log Gulch Campgrounds and your dates fall within the new construction timeline, the BLM stated that those individuals would receive and email about closures and notification of refund details.
The project is part of BLM's efforts to upgrade potable water and irrigation systems in the Chain of Lakes recreational areas. Those upgrades help with safer and reliable water sources for visitors and residents alike. The upgrades will continue through the summer, with staggered starts at each to allow only one campground closure at a time.
