Why Isn't Montana Participating in Saturation Saturday?
We're approaching a major holiday weekend, and there will be plenty of celebrations happening across Montana and the entire country. After all, it is the end of summer big bash for Labor Day and a 3-day party.
And as many people imbibe of their favorite beverage celebrating the end of summer, law enforcement will be actively looking for impaired drivers across our roadways. Drinking and driving in Montana isn't just dangerous, we're known as some of the worst offenders in the U.S. for it. Which begs the question of why our state isn't participating in Saturation Saturday this weekend.

MADD Teams with Law Enforcement Agencies to Bring Awareness to DUI Trends
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) are joining forces with various law enforcement across the country to bring awareness about drinking and driving and the dangers that come with it during Labor Day weekend. The event is called Saturation Saturday.

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drunken driving deaths have significantly increased over the past 6 years across the country. Since 2019 there has been a 33% increase in drunk driving deaths for the Labor Day weekend.
Montana Ranks High for Drinking - Why Aren't We Participating?
Just last month we discussed Montana leading in a category that isn't a good one to be the head of, drunk driving. Which leads me to ask the question of why our state isn't participating in this awareness event? We aren't the only ones, as many states aren't listed through the MADD website (🔗link above). But honestly, a little extra messaging probably wouldn't hurt us either.
I hope that everyone this year is able to enjoy everything they choose to on this upcoming holiday weekend. If you do drink, please choose to lose your keys and let someone else get you to your destination. Montana doesn't need more statistics to add to the already heavy total.
