
Montana Users of USPS Will Be Paying More in 2026
The cost to send someone something through the mail with the United States Postal Service is going to be costing you more money in the upcoming new year. But if you have shipped something in the last few months, the change won't hardly be noticeable.
Rate increases are expected with the USPS in January of 2026 as the agency has filed to make changes to rates with federal regulators. However, rate increases due to the holidays have already been in effect since October of this year, and these new increases continue those rates.

Montana Users of USPS Will Be Paying More in 2026
In October of 2025, the USPS announced it would be raising rates during the holiday shopping season, effective from October 5th, 2025, through January 18th, 2026. Those rates included hikes to flat rate boxes and express shipping to both commercial and general users.

Now USPS is looking to make those rates continue past the stated deadline in January of 2026. The increases are part of the attempt of the agency to become financially stable and not need to rely on tax dollars to stay afloat.
What To Expect When Shipping Items from Montana
For now, you won't be spending more on first class stamps, but shipping items will see percentage jumps of 5% to almost 8%. Proposed percentage increases include:
- Priority Mail Express - 5.1% increase
- Parcel Select - 6% increase
- Priority Mail - 6.6% increase
- USPS Ground Advantage - 7.8% increase
