Legally able to have a deer as a pet is few and far between, as you can see Montana is NOT a state of which these wild animals are allowed to be kept as a pet.

As for the states that are allowed this privilege, according to World Population Review, states that places allowed to have deer as pets are apart of a grandfathered system. Meaning the only way for them to legally have a deer as a pet is for them to have captured it before 2012.

Other blue-colored states need permits to have them.

So, if you presently have a deer as a pet, might be a good idea to set it free or let it go free-range.
