As March comes to an end, so does the lifespan of a major clothing and HomeGoods retailer.

Kohl's has recently announced that 27 locations throughout the United States will be closed on March 29th.

Kohl's Closing Stores

In a recent press release, Kohl's stated that it would close 27 locations that are considered to be underperforming.

The press release also stated they will close their San Bernardino e-commerce distribution center sometime in May.

This distribution center has been operational since 2010.

The announcement was initially made back in January.

Kohl's, which is headquartered in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, announced along with the closures that they are also planning an extensive corporate overhaul.

The company has reduced its corporate workforce by about 10% at the executive level.

The Reason Kohl's Is Closing

In the press release from Kohl's, the rationale behind the closures is due to overall financial performance.

The retailer reported a 9.4% decline in sales during the fourth quarter of 2024 and a 7.2% decrease for the entire year.

The major retailers anticipate a further 2% reduction in sales for 2025.

"We always take these decisions very seriously," said Tom Kingsbury, Kohl’s chief executive officer. "As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams."

Although Kohl's used to be a heavy hitter among the clothing retailers, changing buying trends and online shopping have damaged the company.

It's unsure whether any of the Montana locations will be on the chopping block.
