Montana Authorities Launch Urgent Search For Missing Elderly Woman
Authorities are asking for the public's help locating a missing 77-year-old according to a press release shared late Wednesday night (5/6).
Have You Seen Catherine Rearden?
"The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for a missing 77-year-old woman south of Ulm," the press release said.
"Catherine Rearden, 77, was last seen sometime between midnight and 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the area of 1021 Millegan Road, approximately 10 miles south of Ulm."
"It is possible she has been missing for up to 17 hours."
This is not only horrifying but extremely sad. I can't imagine what the family and loved ones must be experiencing at this time.
According to the release, Rearden is "5’10” tall with blue eyes and gray hair" and was last seen wearing a "black trapper hat and a black winter coat."
"Due to her condition, it is believed she may keep the hat on regardless of weather conditions."
The Search Continues for Catherine Rearden
We're told authorities were first notified of Rearden's disappearance at approximately 2:34 PM on Wednesday. Cascade County Search and Rescue, along with deputies, have began searches of "outbuildings and structures in the immediate area, along with expanded ground and aerial searches" according to the press release.
Even Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks joined the search and provided resources for auhtorities to use in their search.

"Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks assisted with a thermal drone search, and two helicopters from Malmstrom Air Force Base joined the search around 6:30 p.m., assisting with aerial searches of the surrounding terrain, river areas, coulees, and nearby properties."
Unfortunately, Rearden reportedly has dimentia which creates more urgency for authorities to find her quickly.
The sheriff's office says that a similar incident occurred around two years ago when Catherine walked away from her home only to be found three miles away at 747 Millegan Road, hiding from people searching for her.
Residents in Fort Shaw Should Be on High Alert
Authorities say Catherine could be in the Fort Shaw area due to past instances where she mentioned being from there.
"Investigators say Catherine may display mild or childlike behavior, become ornery, make irrational statements about family members, or talk to people who are not present," the press release says, "She frequently talks about growing up in Fort Shaw and may attempt to travel in that direction."

"Searchers are asking the public to carefully check properties, outbuildings, brush, vehicles, and any areas where a person could become stuck or concealed."
It's likely that folks in the area will notice a higher police presence and search efforts underway. If you have any information or think you may have seen Catherine, you're asked to call 911 right away.
