Did This Montana Attack Deserve More Prison Time?
Okay, maybe I'm out of touch with how the law works, and perhaps someone can help me understand this.
But, when you kill someone, that's considered a serious offense right? One that should come with some serious consequences?
The Crime: 3-on-1 Beatdown in Abandoned House
According to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Montana, a woman from Wolf Point received 11 years and four months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
The crime? Participating in the beating of a man to death inside of an abandoned house on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.
According to the report, 26-year-old Abrianne Lillian Deserly along with Calvin Florin Lester, 37, and Dillon Demery Wetsit, 41, entered an abandoned house which officials say locals referred to as a "flop house" - where people drink and sleep.
The group had been drinking and Deserly along with Lester and Wetsit, saw the victim sleeping on the second floor of the abandoned property. An argument reportedly broke out which turned into a 3-on-1 beatdown.
Authorities say Deserly was kicking the victim in the face and at one point, someone in the group put the victim in a chokehold while "other members of the group hit him."
The medical report says the victim died due to "'homicidal violence' with neck compression and blunt injuries to the head."
Shepleaded guilty to "voluntary manslaughter" back in August.
Did These Murderers Get a Light Sentence?
Sounds like a pretty brutal way to die, huh? The victim didn't stand a chance in a 3-on-1 situation and lsoe their life.
And for that, Deserly received 11 years and four months in prison while Lester received 11 years and Wetsit will be sentenced on October 15th.
That's right - 11 years... for taking someone's life. Seems a little low, don't you think? Deserly will be around 37 years old when she gets out with plenty of time to live out the rest of her life. Lester will be around 48 when he gets out and also, will have the rest of his life to live.

I acknowledge that 11 years isn't exactly short but seriously... for murder?
Does that sound right to you? I understand there's a legal process and all but is 11 years of prison an even trade for taking the life of another person? It could be and maybe I'm the crazy one.
I guess it could be worse, right? Deserly could've just pulled a page out of Lindsay Clancy's book.
