Vacation To Hawaii

As you may know, my wife and I recently returned from a trip to the island of Kauai.

We spent about a week there and explored a good portion of the island by car, foot, air, and even boat.

While we were cruising around Kauai, Hawaii, it occurred to me numerous times that the Hawaiian islands and Montana are more alike than you might realize.

Similarities between Hawaii And Montana

First and foremost, let's take a look at the geography.

Much like Montana, Hawaii is very mountainous.

Volcanic formations have created towering mountains, the tallest being Mauna Kea, which is just shy of 14,000 feet tall.

Just as Montana has a rain shadow on the east side of the Rocky Mountains, there are very dry spots on the Hawaiian islands as well.

Yes, a good chunk of the island is a rainforest, but there are some areas that receive as little as 7 inches of rain.

Economics of Hawaii and Montana

Now, let's look at the Hawaiian Islands' economics and compare them to Montana's.

During COVID-19, many people could work remotely and moved to their dream destinations.

Needless to say, Hawaii was on that list, and so was Montana.

Due to this influx of almost uncontrollable growth, the prices of homes and the overall cost of living skyrocketed in Montana and Hawaii.

The locals in Hawaii are feeling the same pinch as many of us here in Montana when it comes to an influx of new residents.

Who would have thought that Hawaii and Montana have so much in common.
