Montana’s Weed Sales Reach Nearly a Quarter Billion Dollars Just This Year
In Montana, people love their beef, freedom, and yes, their marijuana. For those entering the state, it doesn't take long to realize there are many ways to get your hands on the green stuff.
There are dispensaries all over the state ready to serve you up any form of weed you could imagine: weed candy, weed soda, weed pills, just... weed, and well, you get the idea.
But how much do Montanans love their weed?
Montana Marijuana Sales in 2026
It's hard to say how much people in Montana love their weed but there's always one indicator we can refer to: weed revenue.
According to the Montana Department of Revenue, cannabis sales in Montana totaled nearly a quarter billion dollars at $249,241,584 from the start of January this year to the end of last month (September 2026).

Of that staggering number, $24,137,248 comes from medical marijuana while the remaining amount is made up of "adult-use" totaling $225,104,336 - that's a lot!
Weed bought for "adult-use" in September totaled $25.5 million with total cannabis sales (including medical) for the month reaching just over $28 million.
Montana's Tax Revenue from Weed Since 2022
Here's where it gets wild.
Since 2022 when recreational marijuana became legal for consumer purchase, medical and adult-use cannabis sales have combined for a total of $1.5 billion in total sales with $262.5 million in taxes going back to the state.

That's a lot of tax revenue going back to the state and supports everything from substance abuse prevention, mental health services, state parks, and even funding law enforcement.
And we all agree those are all good things for our state then power to the weed-lovers (and legal producers) of Montana!
