Gov. Gianforte, Montana State Bobcats Visit the White House

Earlier this year, the Montana State Bobcats wrapped up a 14-2 season with their first FCS National Championship in 41 years with a win over Illinois State.

The win was celebrated by not just people all over the state of Montana, but all over the country.

By taking home the 'ship, the Bobcats also secured a trip to the White House to have a meet and greet with President Trump.

First Sports Team to Visit White House

Sports teams visiting the White House is nothing new. According to ESPN, President Andrew Johnson was the first to do it when he hosted the Brooklyn Atlantics and Washington Nationals amateur baseball teams.

ESPN reports Ulysses S. Grant was the first to host a pro baseball team with the Cincinatti Reds back in 1869.

And when it comes to hosting college championship teams, President Gerald Ford is reportedly the first when he hosted the Indiana University men's basketball team at the White House in April 1976.

Governor Gianforte, Montana State Bobcats Visit the White House

The tradition continued as we saw in a post shared to Facebook yesterday from Governor Gianforte, who proudly shared his visit to the Oval Office.

"Thank you President Donald J. Trump for welcoming us into the Oval Office," Governor Gianforte said in the post of him standing next to President Trump in the Oval Office.

"It was a great day to be a Bobcat!"

A Bobcat jersey with the name "TRUMP" across the back lies on the desk with the jersey number #47.

Governor Gianforte followed that post up with another earlier today (7/30) showing the National Champs pictured with Governor Gianforte and President Trump.

"It was great to be at the White House to celebrate the Montana State Bobcats national championship," the Gov. Gianforte shared. "Thank you President Donald J. Trump for recognizing this team's historic achievement."
