There's nothing more Montana than a group of Cowboys sitting around a campfire strumming on an old guitar or playing harmonica.

So, when it comes to the favorite genre of music here in the Treasure State, most would think it would be country music.

Now, there are a few discrepancies between the reports, but believe it or not, country music doesn't appear to be the favored genre in Montana.

The Sound Of Country Music

Part of this may be because most of the music coming out in Nashville, Tennessee, today is far from traditional country.

Don't get me wrong, Nashville has always had its "sound," which has always been a little bit different.

And I think that's truer today than ever, but let's be honest: when you remove a steel guitar from the song, it's hard to make it sound country, in my opinion.

Most Popular Music Genera In Montana

When I was researching the most popular music genre in Montana, the first place I found was the Grizzly Rose website.

The Grizzly Rose is an insanely popular concert venue in Denver, Colorado.

I've had the opportunity to check it out on a few occasions.

Let me tell you, if you ever get the chance, it's well worth it.

Here's what the Grizzly Rose had to say about Montana's favorite music genre.

  • Most popular genre: Alternative
  • Most popular contemporary artist: Eminem
  • The most famous homegrown band: Silkworm

This is not just the Grizzly Rose's opinion of Montana music; the website Wide Open Country also agrees.
