New Partnership Provides A Lifeline On Montana’s Highways
Being stranded on a remote highway in Montana can be a total nightmare.
However, a new partnership between the Montana Highway Patrol and the Salvation Army will help alleviate the sting of a bad situation.
Montana Stranded Motorist Assistance Program
The Montana Stranded Motorist Assistance program was created by the Salvation Army to support Montana's travelers and assist them in emergency situations.
Through this partnership, Montana Highway patrol troopers will have the ability to provide vouchers to stranded motorists.
These vouchers will be for towing services, lodging, or other emergency needs that an individual or family might have.
This program embodies our values of service, integrity, and respect as it will help us further serve the traveling public in Montana, said MHP Colonel Kurt Sager. We are grateful to The Salvation Army’s generosity and look forward to working with them on this program to help Montanans and tourists when they are stranded on the side of the road.
At their discretion, troopers can offer vouchers worth up to $150 for towing services or lodging.

The program will kick off in southcentral and southwestern Montana and include areas such as Butte, Bozeman, and Billings.
Additional areas will be added over time.
If a business is interested, they are encouraged to email Jim Antal, a field representative with The Salvation Army, at James.Antal@usw.salvationarmy.org to learn more about the program.
A similar program was launched by The Salvation Army more than a year ago and serves motorists in Wyoming.
