As a proud parent of three, I will always do whatever it takes to keep my kids safe and healthy. It's probably safe to assume that many other parents feel the same way about their kids: keep them safe no matter what.

Now, parents will be able to feel little better knowing their child is a bit safer at school thanks to Cascade County Sheriff's Office.

Cascade County Sheriff's Office Now Accepting Applications

On Friday (1/9), Sheriff Jesse Slaughter took to the podium for a press conference announcing that CCSO is officially hiring for Paid Reserve School Safety Deputies "focused exclusively on protecting local schools."

"Today, we announce the official launch of the Paid Reserve School Safety Deputy positions," Sheriff Slaughter said in a press conference on Friday, "These positions have been posted on the county website for a little over a week."

"The program is made possible by House Bill 323 that was introduced by Representative Steve Fitzpatrick."

The bill Sheriff Slaughter is referring to, HB323, is essential because it states "a reserve deputy sheriff's officer may be compensated in a manner determined by the board of
county commissioners."

How To Apply For Paid Reserve School Safety Deputy

According to the job's official posting, the official title is "Reserve Deputy - School Security Officer" and comes with a salary ranging between $20 and $27 per hour depending on experience.

"The primary function of this position is school security: to protect students, staff, and visitors by maintaining a safe and orderly presence on school grounds," the job listing says.

"This position is a sworn Deputy Sheriff position, with the full Montana Code Annotated enforcement authority of the Office of the Sheriff."

The position is part-time with no benefits but don't worry - CCSO thought of everything.

"Although there are no benefits provided with this position (with the exception of any mandatory retirement contributions/benefits imposed by the PERS/SRS retirement systems), all selected individuals will be provided with the necessary equipment to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and will be covered under workers’ compensation insurance."
