Montana Lottery Player Becomes Millionaire After Powerball
It's a dream for most of us and most of us have spent time talking about what we would do if it happened to us: winning the Powerball.
And unless you've been out of the loop, it has been one of the biggest stories in the nation right now.
Wednesday Night's Drawing Was Historic
Wednesday night's drawing was one of the largest in the lottery's history with an estimated jackpot of $1.4 billion, making it the sixth-largest jackpot in American lottery history according to CNN.

While that's amazing and all, we all somehow flew by one of the biggest stories about the lottery and it took place right here in Montana.
As I was visiting the Powerball's website on Wednesday to fantasize about what would happen if I won as I ate lunch, I noticed an interesting detail on their website.
That's right. Apparently, someone in Montana won and we all somehow missed it - but we can't really blame anyone for not noticing.
According to MontanaLottery.com, "the name of a Montana Lottery winner is not public information and we do not release the names of our winners without expressed permission of the winner, themselves."
At least we know someone from Montana won but just how much did they actually win?
Montana Lottery Winnings & Taxes
The lucky Montanan who had a winning ticket didn't win the jackpot but they still walked away with a pretty penny by taking home $2 million... before taxes.
According to the Montana Lottery, anyone who wins more than $5,000 will be subjected to a whopping 24% federal tax along with a 5.9% state tax.

In this case, the $2 million winner will have to pay $480,000 to the federal government and $118,000 to Montana which brings their net winnings to about $1,402,000.
Still, the winner is technically a millionaire and I'm sorry but if you hand me $1.4 million... I ain't complaining!
