Sun River WMA Opening Will Draw Hundreds To This Popular Event
Every May 15th, hundreds of people flock to the Sun River Wildlife Management Area to participate in the annual shed hunt.
If you've never experienced this wild event, just picture of seen from the Oklahoma land rush!
Sun River Wildlife Management
The Sun River Wildlife Management Area was established in 1948 as a way of preserving Montana's natural history.
This area was primarily designed to safeguard the winter range habitat for the Sunriver Elk herd, which covers a portion of the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountain front.

Habitat Preservation and Wildlife Importance
During the winter months, the Sun River Wildlife Management Area hosts around 95% of the elk that are generally found in this area.
As spring rolls around and the elk and deer lose their antlers, and this area quickly becomes a gold mine for shed hunting.
Sunriver Wildlife Management Area Shed Hunt
Opening on May 15th at high noon, the Sun River Wildlife Management Area will welcome visitors from all across Montana who hope to score some epic antlers.
This is, by far, the most anticipated time of the year at the Sunriver Wildlife Management Area.
Some people hike in, others hop on a horse, and some grab a four-wheeler, hoping to cover some serious ground and find antlers.
I had the opportunity to attend this event a few years back, and it is a rush!
If I can give you any advice at all, it wouldn't hurt to get there a few days early and camp out if you want to be first in line!
