THEY BRING DISEASES AND THEY ARE ABOUT READY TO INVADE MONTANA. FROM WHERE?
The invasion is about to happen in Montana. They are along our border and could soon be in Montana. Feral hogs are getting ready to raid Montana and wreak havoc on our crops and land.
According to fish, wildlife and parks, the wild hogs are in Canada and only about fifty miles or less from the Montana border. The problem started in Canada in 2001 when the wild boar market peaked and that's when farmers had no more use for the animals and let them lose. But what they created prior to that was a super pig. They bred the European wild boar with a domestic pig and ended up creating the worst invasive large mammal on the planet.
Scientists say these wild hogs can breed quickly and are smarter. They can destroy natural habitats and crops quickly. They will also damage fences. They will grow to 120 to 250 pounds but some have been spotted at over 600 pounds. It is estimated that the Canadian population of feral hogs is around 100,000. There are already reports of the wild hogs showing up in North Dakota. Most of them are in the Canadian Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan which directly border Montana.
They can bring diseases like foot and mouth disease which can be spread quickly to a herd in Montana. Here is more of what a feral hog can bring to Montana, leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis, brucellosis, tularemia, trichinellosis, swine influenza, salmonella, hepatitis and pathogenic E. coli. Some off these can also spread to humans.
What is Montana doing about it? They have set up a "Squeal on Pigs" hotline at 406-444-2976. If you see a feral pig in Montana call that number and fish, wildlife and parks will come out and take care of the problem.
