20 Cats Removed From A Great Falls Home
The Great Falls Police Department and Great Falls Animal Control officers recently seized 20 cats from a residence on 12th St North.
The seizure followed an investigation after numerous reports were made about approximately 40 cats living in the residence.

Animal Cruelty Investigation In Great Falls
The investigation began after Great Falls Animal Control officers received reports of roughly 40 cats living in poor conditions in a basement.
Officers attempted a welfare check but could not obtain permission to enter the home.
A search warrant was granted after further investigation by Montana Probation and Parole officers and Great Falls Police Department detectives.
The search warrant was granted under charges of Aggravated Animal Cruelty (MCA 45-8-217).
Aggravated animal cruelty is a felony and is when an individual is knowingly cruel to animals and or fails to provide adequate care.
Following the search warrant, it was clear that the home sanitation conditions were not suitable for animal habitation.
Animal Relocation
Twenty cats were seized from the home, including a mother with four, three-week-old kittens.
The animals were all transferred to a temporary housing facility that is managed by the Great Falls Animal Shelter.
One dog was also taken from the property during the investigation.
According to the reports, all the animals were relatively healthy and in good condition.
Great Falls Animal Regulations
Great Falls city ordinance 6.1.060, limits the number of animals in a residence.
Folks living in Great Falls are allowed two cats, and two dogs, unless the owner has a multiple animal permit or has a hobby breeder permit.
The current animal cruelty case remains under investigation.
