A MONTANA STATE PRISONER WITH TIES TO CENTRAL MONTANA CAPTURED AF

A state prisoner with ties to central Montana is back in the state prison after spending several hours on the lam. 52-year- old Brian Jones was recaptured Friday night near the town of Basin. According to prison officials, Jones escaped from the Work Reentry Center at the prison in Deer Lodge and was able to get a ford F-250 pickup used by prisoners who work on the prison's Cowboy Crew.

When prison officials noticed the truck missing they immediately locked down the prison and did an inmate count and noticed that Jones was the one missing. The truck was spotted in the interstate heading towards Butte. The truck was later found abandoned near the town of Basin where the search continued. Basin residents were told to stay inside their homes as state troopers and county officials searched for Jones with the aid of helicopters.

Jones was taken into custody without incident around 10:30 Friday night. Jones was considered a low risk prisoner and was allowed certain privileges at the state prison. Jones most recent conviction was out of Lewis and Clark County for criminal endangerment. He has a long rap sheet which is below.
