Simulator Shows Asteroid Hitting Great Falls In 2032
It's crazy to think how casually we talk about space these days, right? I mean think about it - it wasn't that long ago that the US was a space race with the rest of the world to see who successfully get there first.
Now? We casually talk about launching satellites into orbit, sending people to Mars, and even sending celebrities to space.
Something Is Heading For Earth
We continue to learn what we can about space and while that can be exciting, it can also be a little terrifying. And what could be so terrifying about space that we learn?
Asteroids. I know, it sounds crazy and like something out of Hollywood, but it can happen! Have you ever see the movies Armageddon and Deep Impact?
According to NASA, we should have the date December 22, 2032 circled on our calendars because that's when an asteroid about 130 to 300 feet wide could technically strike Earth.

What I love about NASA is they're upfront about the minimal risk this asteroid actually poses to our planet. But, they had to report it because according to NASA, "it surpassed the 1% impact probability threshold to warrant formal notification of the object to other U.S. government agencies involved in planetary defense as well as to the Space Mission Planning Advisory Group and to the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs."
That honestly sounds like something out of the movie Independence Day - I know, I reference movies a lot, what can I say?
What Would Happen If This Asteroid Struck Earth?
But, what would happen if this asteroid did defy all odds and actually strike Earth? What would happen if it struck Great Falls?

We found this fun little simulator at Neal.Fun/asteroid-launcher and let's just say the impact wouldn't be good. It's crazy too because we wouldn't think a 300-foot wide asteroid could be that devastating but this simulator shows us otherwise.
Between earthquakes, deadly winds, aftershocks, and more... there would be a lot of destruction. Just look at it!
