Tariffs have been the talk of the town recently and will likely continue to be a hot-button issue for quite some time.

Whether you agree with them or disagree with them, one thing is for sure they do have an impact on our economy.

Just how much of an impact they will have is anybody's guess.

Canadian Tariffs

It's no secret that President Trump has threatened Canada with significant tariffs that would impact trade.

Currently, those tariffs are on hold as negotiations continue with the Canadian government.

If you follow any of the Facebook pages here in Montana, you may have noticed Canadians voicing their thoughts on tariffs.

Many have stated that given the potential tariffs implemented on their country, they will refuse to travel to Montana and will no longer do business in our communities.

Now, it's hard to know whether most Canadians feel this way or just a few vocal individuals sounding off on social media.

Canadian Travel To Montana

During the summer months, Montana relies heavily on Canadian tourism.

Here in Great Falls, for instance, a good chunk of our out-of-town visitors are our friends from the north.

If travelers from Canada stop coming to Montana due to these tariffs, there is no doubt that it will impact our economy.

If Canadians follow through on this statement, the hospitality industry, including restaurants, businesses, and hotels, will most certainly feel the pinch from the lack of tourism.

As I mentioned before, I'm not advocating for or against tariffs.

I'm just examining the issue of Canadians voicing their thoughts on it and stating that they will not travel to our communities.

I suppose only time will tell as to the impact of this topic.
