History Of Easter Eggs
- The practice of decorating Easter eggs predates Christianity. Ancient Persia, Europe, and even Mesopotamia began decorating eggs as part of spring festivals. This was often a symbol of new life and fertility.
- Christians later adopted the Easter egg as a symbol of Jesus's resurrection and rebirth. In the Middle Ages, egg-dying became part of an Easter tradition across Europe.
- An Orthodox Christian tradition was to dye eggs red to represent the blood of Christ and the joy of resurrection.
- Egg dying became more popular in the late 1800s when various companies began selling egg kits.
