Montana Residents Urged to Check Faulty Glucose Sensors

Technology can sure be a double-edged sword, can't it? On one hand, it can make life easier and even less stressful. On the other hand, it can create confusion and more headaches for things that otherwise wouldn't be so stressful.

In the case of healthcare, there are many who are okay with assuming some sort of risk as long as they feel better. Unfortunately, a tool used to help those manage their glucose levels is causing enough stress to warrant a warning from officials.

Medical Monitoring Device Has Manufacturing Defect

If you have a device monitoring your glucose levels, listen up! The company Abbott released an important statement regarding their FreeStyle Libre 3 and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors.

"Abbott has initiated a medical device correction for certain FreeStyle Libre 3 and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors in the United States after internal testing determined that some sensors may provide incorrect low glucose readings," Abbott said in their official statement.

"If undetected, incorrect low glucose readings over an extended period may lead to incorrect treatment decisions for people living with diabetes, such as excessive carbohydrate intake or skipping or delaying insulin doses," Abbott said before issuing a grim warning.

"These decisions may pose serious health risks, including potential injury or death, or other less serious complications."

The Effects Of This Monitoring Malfunction

Unfortunately, as reported by CBS News and shared by Abbott, there have been a "756 adverse events potentially linked to the issue" and seven deaths.
