Sooner rather than later, spring will finally decide to show up, and many of us will be tackling projects at our homes this summer.

Not every project requires pulling a permit from the city of Great Falls, but if you do need one, here's the information on how to track one down.

Great Falls City Permits

First and foremost, I totally understand how frustrating the permitting process can be.

Don't get me wrong, I get the reasoning behind permits and why they are important, but on occasion, it can be a little bit difficult here in the Electric City.

Thankfully, it's not terribly challenging to track down the permit you might need.

The starting point for permits is the Great Falls Public Works Department.

What Requires A Permit In Great Falls?

Here's a look at some of the more common permits that are required in Great Falls and listed under the Public Works permits page.

  • Right away permit: This is required for excavations within a public right away. This does not include curbs, cuts, driveways, and sidewalks.
  • Fire line permit: This is needed for repairs or installations of any water service dedicated to a fire line.
  • Curb permit: You'll need this permit before you remove, excavate, or replace the curb or gutter.
  • Sidewalk permit: This is needed to excavate, remove, or replace any concrete on a right-of-way sidewalk.
  • General plumbing permit: This is needed for any water service piping or repair.
  • Raising permit: I had never heard of this before, but it's needed whenever a building is torn down and the water or sewer lines are cut off or abandoned.
  • Building sewer permit: Needed for residential and commercial services.

I have to work on some concrete updates and repairs at my house this year, hence why I started looking into the permitting process.

Hopefully this article helps with your project.
