
Warm Weather Brings Wildfire Worries To Cascade County
As the nice weather continues, it has given me the chance to head to our campsite earlier than usual to check on things and tidy up a bit before moving the camper in for the summer season.
The biggest thing I've noticed, besides the obvious lack of the white stuff that should be there, is just how dry the area is. Like break the stalk of the grass when you walk on it type of dry. And right here at home, it's the same in my yard and the outer lying areas of Cascade County.
Those conditions are raising some concerns with officials in the county and the emergency services departments.

Open Burns in Cascade County - Yes, But Be Extremely Careful
With those dry conditions across Cascade County, and due to an increased wildfire level, officials with the Cascade County Disaster and Emergency Services announced that open burning within the county were prohibited.

Those restrictions went into effect on February 6, 2026, at 9:35am, continuing into the weekend. But then confusion set in across the county beginning the following Monday, when those wishing to have an open burn found two answers two whether or not they could actually have a fire.
Emergency Services Opens Burning Back Up After Quick Storm in Area
It was easy to understand why the County chose to close off open burns; it really is that dry out there. But for those that wanted to get rid of whatever trash via burning on Monday February 9, they found the social media pages stating it was allowed:
But when logging into the county website for your permit, it wasn't allowed. Kind of a Homer moment if you will:
Regardless, you really can burn something in the county, effective on the above date. those wishing to burn something out in the open can do so now at the county website here. But use caution with our conditions and keep hoping for more moisture in the coming weeks to help with wildfires this season in Montana.
