No more sitting around an old police scanner on a Friday or Saturday night listening to the reports coming into dispatch from the local PD.  Low & behold a new way to access that information, for any neighborhood.

Crimemapping.com.  The new way of getting police reports.  Central Square Technologies built crimemapping.com to help local law enforcement agencies keep the public informed about recent crime in their area.  With multiple agencies dealing with a variety of situations, keeping the public accurately informed was almost an impossible job.  Probably the reason why people chose to listen to the police scanner, getting that information as it was happening.  But if you missed something in the scanner report, you were out of luck.

Crime data is taken from each departments records system on a regular basis and then it is verified, before being compiled into one data base.  This data base is then put into a mapping engine that we can access through a Web browser.
