I suppose many a cat owner in Montana or anywhere has thought of this scenario,

"Do I declaw the cat in my household?"

Do you save you furniture and other belongings from potential damage that cat claws can bring?

On the other hand, or paw, I should say, does one take away the main defense mechanism that our tiny creatures have against a number of things lurking around the neighborhood if your friend is an outside cat?

Personally, I would say no.

Let me briefly explain Declawing.

Declawing is the process according the ASPCA as Onychectomy. The amputation of the last digital bone, including the nail bed and claw, on each front toe. This operation presents many problems for the cat such as foot problems, back problems, healing time, and like before, it takes away a defense mechanism.

Is Declawing Cats Illegal in Montana?

According to worldpopulationtreview.com, Montana is NOT a state that outlaws cat declawing. There's a map showing where declawing is illegal with most states showing that is still legal and Oregon has it as a requirement for such procedures.

The ASPCA as well as The Humane Society of The United States of America both advocate against declawing due to it's obvious inhumane after affects, many petitions around the country and the internet have proposed the mass outlaw of declawing with many people signing. Will it be enough to help save those toe beans? That remains to be scene.

I look at it like this, legal or not, declawing is permanent. Furniture can be refurbished. It's simple math for me, but you can see where my bias is showing.
