For many people across the country, living in Montana has become somewhat of a dream. Whether it’s the stunning imagery of the state people consume from across social media or the allure of the “Cowboy lifestyle”, there are a few things you’ll have to understand in order to live here.

Don’t Move To Montana Before You Read This

Now, we all know there is much more to learn from those who’ve lived here for most or their whole lives, so take what I’m about to tell you with a speck of salt.

What I can share with you is the perspective and first impressions I’ve had since moving here with my wife and kids. With that said, I’ve certainly noticed a theme or motto here and it’s made me fall in love with the state even more.

And that theme is “respect.”

To get it, you must earn it and if there’s anything I’ve learned in my short time here, it’s to respect the state, community, and the way of life.

There are many longtime Montana residents I’ve encountered who’ve all told me “outsiders” are ruining the state they grew up with, in particular, Californians. Now, I’m not here to point fingers and I don’t have any room to! I’m still “new” here, right?

Being from Texas though, I did relate some because there are a lot of similar complaints down south.

And it’s not just about outsiders or “transplants”, there are a lot of other things you’ll need to know if you want to make it in Montana. But, in order to do that, you’ll have to approach everything about Montana with, yep, you guessed it - respect.
