Whether you're playing for fun or hoping to win big and live a life of luxury, participating in the lottery can be costly and frustrating.

But if you win big, I suppose it's all worth it... Right?

If you're planning on playing the Mega Millions lottery, it will soon start costing you more.

Mega Millions Price Increase

According to a recent press release from the Mega Millions Jackpot, tickets will cost more starting Tuesday, April 8th.

Although the ticket will cost a little more, the lottery promises bigger prizes, better odds, and more value.

I find it a little funny to use the word value in the same sentence as lottery, but hey, why not?

A basic ticket to play the Mega Millions will now cost five dollars per play.

With the new structure, non-jackpot prizes are increasing quite a bit.

Under the new system, every non-jackpot win will automatically multiply its base prize by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X.

The new prizes for the game will range from $10 to $10 million, compared to $2 to $1 million.

Odds Of Winning the Lottery

Once these changes are implemented, the odds of winning a prize will slightly improve.

The new odds to win any prize will improve to 1:23 from 1:24 due to removing one gold Mega Ball from the game.

Jackpots will now begin at $50 million instead of $20 million.

Basically, every winning ticket will pay at least double the five-dollar cost of each play.
