I don't think it's possible to go through a day without interacting with plastics.

It's in absolutely everything we come in contact with on a day-to-day basis.

But just how dangerous is plastic?

Well, this new study that was recently published shines a light on the issue, and the data may shock you.

Microplastic Study

A study was recently published by Nature Medicine and revealed some shocking information when it comes to microplastics and our bodies.

Researchers looked at the liver, kidneys, and brain samples from various autopsies conducted in 2016 and 2024.

Shockingly, they found substantially higher concentrations of microplastics in brain tissue from the autopsy conducted in 2024.

How Do Microplastics Get Into the Brain?

Needless to say, the idea of having micro plastics in your brain is rather concerning.

But you might wonder how in the world these little particles even make it into your brain?

Well, if the microplastic particles are 200 nanometers or less believe it or not those are small enough to travel through your bloodstream much like a virus and end up in your brain.

The researchers found 12 different types of plastic in various tissue samples that were looked at with polyethylene being the most common.

This particular kind of plastic is often used in plastic packaging, bottles and cups.

Researchers believe the most common exposure to micro plastics happens through food, especially meat.

Plastics and Dementia

Researchers have also begun to look into the connection between microplastics in the brain and dementia.

So far, the studies have pointed toward a correlation between a dementia diagnosis, and individuals with higher concentrations of microplastics.

Research is ongoing when it comes to Dementia and microplastics, but one thing is for sure it is definitely concerning.
