Montana Holds The Record For These Surprising Weather Extremes
It's no secret that Montana is home to some surprising weather extremes.
Temperatures can remain subzero for weeks in the winter; in the summer, triple digits are not out of the question for many areas throughout the Treasure State.
But you might not realize that Montana is home to record-breaking temperature swings.
Whether it be from hot to cold or cold hot, Montana holds numerous record-breaking temperature anomalies.
According to Weather Underground, here are a few of the extremes.
From Cold to Warm
The United States has witnessed some pretty extreme temperature swings over the years.
But Montana takes the gold for the fastest temperature rise in a 24-hour period.
On January 14-15, 1972, the town of Loma experienced a jaw-dropping ascent from a bone-chilling -54°F to a relatively toasty 49°F within just 24 hours.
If you can't do fast math in your head, that is a 103° temperature swing, which remains unmatched to this day.
