Here’s Why You Need To Update Your iPhone Immediately
Apple recently announced an emergency update to their iOS system, addressing two critical vulnerabilities.
The last Apple update left phones unsecured to potential cyber-attacks.
Apple is asking that users update their phones ASAP to address this issue.
What’s New in iOS 18.1.1?
The iOS 18.1.1 update includes important security fixes for two significant vulnerabilities:
- JavaScriptCore Vulnerability (CVE-2024-44308)
This flaw affects the JavaScript core framework and supposedly allows attackers to plant malicious code on your device by tricking you into interacting with a fake website. - WebKit Vulnerability (CVE-2024-44309)
This flaw is found in the Web kit, which is basically the core engine of the Apple Safari browser. It enables cross-site scripting attacks and allows hackers to inject harmful code into trusted website applications.
Apple has not provided many details about these vulnerabilities, but it is actively urging users to update their devices as soon as possible.
Devices Eligible For Update
The iOS 18.1.1 update is available for:
- iPhone XS and later
- iPad Pro (13-inch, 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, 11-inch 1st generation and later)
- iPad Air 3rd generation and later
- iPad 7th generation and later
- iPad mini 5th generation and later
Apple released iOS 17.7.2 for older devices, which addresses the same vulnerabilities.
New Warning from CISA
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has also issued an alert.
According to CISA, “a cyber threat actor could exploit these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected system.”
Updates for macOS Sequoia 15.1.1, visionOS 2.1.1, and Safari 18.1.1 are also available to address these vulnerabilities.
How to Update Your Device
Follow these simple steps to install iOS 18.1.1 or 17.7.2:
- Open the Settings app.
