Great Falls Youth Fishing Gets Major Support This Month

Being born and raised in South Texas, I haven't had the pleasure of enjoying the tasty flavors of walleye fish. I became even more intrigued with this fish when a coworker described it to me as "the everyday man's lobster."

Now, there's an opportunity for us to support the future of young fishermen/walleye enthusiasts all across Great Falls.

Walleye Fish Are Among The Most Important In America

Before we dive into how we can help Walleyes Unlimited here in Great Falls, some folks might be asking what makes walleye so great. If you've never had walleye like I haven't, I'm told that we're missing out.

According to Montana State University, walleye fish is "one of the most important sport fishes in Montana's eastern drainage and elsewhere in the U.S. and in Canada, where the walleye is a much sought-after commercial fish as well" and they say "its flesh is of the highest quality."

It's that last part for me - I've never tried walleye but the more and more I hear about it, the more I want to try it. I've heard that it's especially delicious when seasoned and deep fried. Yum!

Walleyes Unlimited Great Falls Chapter Needs Our Support

We recently caught up with Robbi, a representative for Walleyes Unlimited Great Falls Chapter and he shared a few ways we can support the young fishermen and fisherwomen of Great Falls.

On February 7th, Walleyes Unlimited Great Falls Chapter will be hosting their 41st Annual Banquet at Montana ExpoPark - Four Seasons Arena with proceeds going back into the community.

For $50, you'll get to enjoy a delicious walleye dinner, games, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, live and silent auction, and tons more. All of the proceeds will help provide fishing gear for "numerous kids says", building and repairing docks, enhancing fisheries, and more.

Panda Express Shows Support For Camp Walleye

In addition to the February banquet, Walleyes Unlimited Great Falls Chapter has also teamed up with Panda Express to help raise money for Camp Walleye.

According to Camp Walleyes Unlimited, Camp Walleye is a "one-day camp for kids and a second day encouraging families to camp and enjoy a family fun fishing day."

On December 19, the northwest Panda Express at 521 3rd St NW in Great Falls will be donating 20% of sales to benefit Camp Walleye. To do your part, all you have to do is let them know that you're purchasing for Camp Walleye and then you're set!
