If you've been around the agricultural scene for any time, you've probably heard the term or theory behind 90-day fog.

This theory basically states that roughly 90 days after a widespread fog event, a decent weather system involving precipitation will move through the area.

There is absolutely no science that confirms or denies this theory, and it's not totally clear where this theory even began.

But one thing is for sure: Many farmers and ranchers rely wholeheartedly on this 90-day fog theory.

Our last major fog event in North Central Montana was August 5, 2024.

When the fog settled, I decided to scribble up a story about the 90-day fog theory and track when, if this theory is true, this next major weather event should impact us.

Judging from the last significant fog here in North Central, Montana, roughly November 3rd would be the 90-day point.

Needless to say, November 3rd came and went without a lot of activity.

However, November 5th and 6th are looking to pack quite a punch.

This next weather maker is expected to produce significant snow and cold throughout Central Montana, with over a few inches of total accumulation in many areas.

It's pretty hard to deny that 90-day fog is real when it seems to happen repeatedly.
