Great Falls Americans hockey season is back and each week I have a conversation with Great Falls Americans Head Coach Greg Sears.

Randy: Hockey season is here, exciting times, time to get back on the ice, tell me what we can expect.

Coach Sears: Fresh group of guys. You know they’ve been working hard for about a week now, so looking forward to seeing what's under the hood this weekend against Butte. It's crazy, it's 100 degrees outside, but the ice is set up really good and we're happy to be home.

Randy: Should be cool this weekend, so that will help maybe get people out and about. Who are some of the stars that we will hear about early on in the season?

Coach Sears: We're really excited about our goal tending this year. We got a veteran goalie named Josh Koziol in from Minnesota, 2002 birth year with junior experience. So looking forward to seeing what he can provide in the net and then having third year guys back like local Garrett Weisenberger is huge. He has about 90 games of junior hockey under his belt and a few other guys like that. So we like our group a lot and look forward to seeing what they can do.

Randy: Obviously you're at the helm. Any changes in any of the coaching staff or is everything pretty well the same?

Coach Sears: Coach Mattie moved on. He took a head coaching job in New York, so got a little help from former player Zach Hatton is our strength and conditioning guy. Trevor Mellon will be our goaltending coach and we're looking for an assistant coach in the meantime.

Randy: Well, we wish you the best of luck. Anything else you want to throw out there?

Coach Sears: No, just really excited for the season, see what we got this weekend.

Randy: Well, good luck and we'll touch base with you next Monday.

Coach Sears: Thank you, Randy.

First game of the season is Saturday September 10th at 7:30.  It is against Butte and will be at the Great Falls Ice Plex. You can learn more about Great Falls Americans here.
