Farmer's Almanac Predictions Seem a Little Off for Montana

Growing up in a rural area, no matter your location across Montana or America, there was one common denominator.  A small, yellow book with black lettering that every home had on an end stand or coffee table.

The ever-popular Farmer's Almanac has been a standard for over 225 years. They are helping us with everything under the sun.  Literally.  Weather, crops, farming, ranching, gardening, astrological happenings.  Seriously.  Everything under the sun.

Wacky Weather Continues Into 2024 Across Montana

Generally, the Almanac is pretty spot on in terms of the weather.  C'mon, after 225 years you probably learn a thing or two about patterns, right?  But the forecast provided seems a little off from what has happened, at least in Central Montana.

Mild conditions from November into December meant trace amounts of snow for Santa to land his slay on and January into February saw records smashed and people digging out golf clubs to hit the links.

This Doesn't Mean I Am Going To Quit Using The Farmer's Almanac

Even though they may get some of the predictions wrong, I go back to the experience side of things.  Even though the original forecast for our region was a tad off:

Winter will be colder than normal, with the coldest periods in late November, late December, and early to mid-January, as well as early February in the north only. Precipitation and snowfall will be slightly above normal, with the snowiest periods in late November, mid-December, and mid-January.

Not exactly spot on.  But, I am hopeful as weird as this may seem, that their forecast continues to be wrong:

April and May will be cooler and drier than normal in the north and warmer and wetter in the south. Summer will be hot, with the hottest periods in late June, mid-July, and late August. Rainfall will be below normal in the north and above normal in the south. September and October will be warmer and drier than normal.

See why I would prefer they were wrong?  As we head through the final few weeks of winter and think of spring, let us hope that Mother Nature brings some moisture to us.  Otherwise, we won't be worried about just ski resorts closing because of no snow.

We may face closing the state down because of fires.
