The First Emergency:

  • At 11:42 a.m., a woman jumped off Warden Bridge and tired as she was swimming to shore
  • GFFR picked her up in a rescue boat
  • She was sent to Benefis to be checked for any injury

The Second Emergency:

  • At 4:22 p.m. a man jumped in the Missouri to get his remote controlled boat
  • He was seen struggling, then submerged into the water and didn't come back up
  • Helping to find the man was Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks and the Great Falls Police Department provided a drone search.
  • The man was later found drowned

Neither of the victims have been identified.

The Missouri River Has Hidden Dangers

With all of this happening in one day, it's a good reminder that the Missouri River, while beautiful, is full of danger lurking underneath.

The Missouri River is notoriously bad for undertow. Undertow will kill even the most skilled swimmer.

The Missouri River also has a lot of deep spots, snags and nasty rocks that are hiding just below the surface.

While it can be dangerous, time on the Missouri can be a great part of your summer if you take precautions.

  • Of course, always wear a life jacket
  • Never swim alone in the river
  • Closely supervise children and pets
  • Know what to do in a water emergency
