Heads Up, Montana: This Popular AI Prank Is Dangerous!
Do you remember when the idea of artificial intelligence was just that? An idea? Many of us expected AI to bring about the wonders of the future, an imminent robot takeover, and even human-sized robots catering to our everyday needs.
There are many fascinating uses of AI and surely, we'll continue to elevate as a society through the use of AI... right?
Some AI Users Are Sinking To A New Low
Whether it's used for proofreading, coming up with fun and harmless photos of you and your friends, AI has all sorts of uses. Now, police across the country are reminding folks to use AI responsibly and not for the latest trendy "prank" that has captivated social media: "The AI Homeless Man Prank."

The "prank"has users using AI to superimpose a "homeless man" into photos of the user's home, making it seem like someone they don't know is in their home. The user then sends it to family or relatives, usually adding that they don't know who it is or that they may be in danger.
As you'd expect, it's not going over well with law enforcement.
"Here’s the problem: officers are responding FAST using lights-and-sirens to what sounds like a call of a real intruder — and only getting called off once everyone realizes it was a joke," one police department said on Facebook.

"That’s not just a waste of resources… it’s a real safety risk for officers who are responding and for the family members who are home if our officers get there before the prank is revealed and rush into the home to apprehend this 'intruder' that doesn't exist."
What Should The Punishment Be For This "Prank" In Montana?
I would imagine that a prank like this could result in a charge like "False Reports To Peace Officers," which according to Montana legislation, could result in a $500 fine and/or jail time up to six months.
But, what do you think? Do you think there should be different laws and punishments for this type of use of AI? Let us know your thoughts HERE.
